The fourth best sports story in our top 10 countdown for area schools from the 2019-2020 academic year takes us to the bowling lanes.
For the first time in program history, the Sigourney-Keota bowling team was represented at state after Holden Huffman finished runner-up at the qualifying meet. On February 18th, the Sigourney senior shot a two-game score of 480 in Muscatine and that tally was in the top 12 of the state to allow him to advance as an at-large bid.
Huffman told KCII Sports what it was like to be the first Cobra to accomplish the feat. “It meant a lot to me because we worked really hard to get the program at Sigourney. We almost made state as a team my sophomore year so it was nice to get that chance to go this season.”
The next week at state in Waterloo, Huffman cracked the top 15 in class 1A finishing 14th out of 53 with a score of 426. His 259 pins in game one was the second highest total of all participants.
Check back in tomorrow for number three on our countdown when we take a look at area state cross country runners.
