Two contracts for road work totaling $1.8 million in Washington County were awarded Tuesday. Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius explained the work that’ll be done on Spruce Avenue from 135th Street to Riverside Road, “With this project to regrade, restore the cross section of the road, resurface it, and also extend a box culvert in the middle of the project, help addressing erosion and speed or slope issues. We’re using local funds to do this work, so we let this project locally. Last Thursday, bids were open.” The Washington County Board of Supervisors awarded the project to DeLong Construction of Washington for $232,142.50.

The second project is tied to Premier 1 and paving the roads to their facility on 290th Street, Kiwi Avenue, and 300th Street. This project is funded in part by a RISE grant from the state of Iowa. The project was awarded to Jones Contracting Corp out of West Point for $1,616,077.70. The late-start date for that project is next July.
