A severe thunderstorm traveled southeast to northwest Tuesday afternoon and prompted a severe thunderstorm warning to be issued. The National Weather Service issued the warning at 1:45 p.m. for Washington County and it expired at 2:15 p.m. The warning included portions of Henry, Keokuk, and Jefferson Counties. At 2:02 p.m. the warning was extended into Johnson and Iowa Counties. A trained weather spotter reported wind gusts reached 55 miles per hour near Coppock, and a fence was blown down and tin was taken off of an outbuilding roof.
Six members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought live coverage of the storm. And had the power gone out, KCII would stay live on the air with our emergency backup generators.
