Our second biggest athletic story from the last academic year at Mid-Prairie High School takes us to the wrestling mat to celebrate the senior season and career of Isaac Boucher. Boucher joined the 100-win club at Mid-Prairie on December 21st of 2019 with a pin over Nathan Rechkemmer of North Linn in just 30 seconds.
The 2019 River Valley Conference champion advanced to the semifinals of the RVC tournament at Tipton in 2020. In the postseason, Boucher rolled through sectionals at Williamsburg, pinning his way to the 195lb title. At the district meet, while battling influenza, he beat Lane Stender of Maquoketa by major decision to open the day and would best Clark Younggreen of Mount Vernon by fall in a wrestleback to advance to the state tournament for the second straight season. Boucher told KCII sports about the district meet and what it felt like to qualify for state for the second straight year. “I was happy because I saw how happy my family was, and coach Garvey and coach Billups. It was bittersweet too because of all of the guys that went before me that day and no one else had made it through. Once my family came down to me, I saw my mom, sister and dad tear up, they were so happy for me.”
Once in Des Moines, he opened with a pin over Zavion McMurran of Estherville Lincoln Central before dropping a quarterfinal match and a consolation bout to end his tournament.
