More than 13,000 Iowans filed initial unemployment claims in the week ending May 23rd. According to Iowa Workforce Development the number of continuing weekly unemployment claims was 180,679. The unemployment insurance benefit payment was nearly $49 million for the same week. Industries with the highest numbers of claims include manufacturing at 3,835, self-employed at 2,382, health care and social assistance at 1,399, retail trade at 923 claims, and accommodation and food services at 898.

Since April 4th, a total of $661 million in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation has been paid in Iowa.
