Finally. The day that Southeast Iowa athletes have waited for since mid-March is finally here. Sports are back.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has declared today as the day that practices may begin for high school baseball and softball teams across the state. These practices will be the first school sanctioned events since the coronavirus pandemic started at the end of the basketball season. The spring sports season was cancelled and Governor Kim Reynolds eventually allowed the start of the summer sports season to be on June 1st with guidelines that must be adhered to. The first competitions can be held on June 15th. The shortened baseball season will conclude with the state tournament in Des Moines from July 24th-August 1st and softball state will be in Fort Dodge from July 27-31st.
Washington, Mid-Prairie, and Hillcrest Academy baseball and softball games can be heard on AM and FM KCII throughout the summer. Check out the live radio sports guide at kciiradio.com for the complete broadcast schedule.
