Nearly 21% of Washington County’s registered voters took part in the June primary, for a total of 3,126 ballots cast. Of the ballots cast in Washington county 51.7% were Republicans and 48.3% were Democrats. In Washington County, 2,547 of the ballots were absentee – people who voted by mail, early in person, or early curbside. That equates to 81% of ballots cast being absentee.

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate said that Tuesday’s primary was an all-time record for turnout in a June primary with nearly half of a million voters. That surpassed the record of 449,490 set in 1994.
