One Washington Community Schools administrator will have a slightly different role this fall when students return to campus.
Brent Van Weelden has doubled as the activities director and dean of students at Washington High School, but this coming year he has dropped the role as dean of students and instead will be the activities director for both the high school and middle school.
Van Weelden, who is also the head wrestling coach, told KCII about the transition. “It has been pretty seamless. With middle school summer activities getting cancelled I have been focusing on the high school baseball and softball season like I normally would. As for the new role, my main responsibility will be to hire all activity and club personnel and handle all activities for both schools instead of just the high school. Karla Garrett is still here and will be working alongside me to make sure everything runs smooth.”
This change allows for a new hire for the dean of students position and will add a third administrator at the high school.
