KCII’s preview of each baseball and softball team gets underway today and we start it up by looking at the Keota softball team.
The Eagles are seeking their first varsity win in five seasons and look to erase a 0-18 campaign last year. Experience will be on Keota’s side, as they just lost one player from 2019 in Jill Schulte. Makenzie Jackson returns for her sophomore year and will look to build off of a .429 batting average and four runs scored while Macie McDonald garnered a .243 batting average. McDonald and Alexia Purkeypile are back in the circle after combining for 83 innings with a 21.49 ERA last summer. Although experienced, head coach Dewey Purkeypile’s bunch will still be young with Jaime Schulte being the lone senior and over half of the players being freshmen or sophomores.
Keota opens the season next Monday against North Mahaska.
