The Columbus girls softball team is ready for this year’s campaign. The Wildcats finished last year with a 4-20 overall record, including a 3-12 mark in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. The Wildcats scored a pair of wins each over Mediapolis and Hillcrest Academy.

Last year’s edition of the Wildcats was led by freshman Libby White with her .352 average, .453 on base percentage and .426 slugging percentage. As a team, the Wildcats hit .337, seventh in the Superconference North division. Columbus loses just one of their top nine statistical batters from a season ago.

In the circle, Columbus has a team ERA of 8.59 with White and Emma Milder doing the majority of the work. White had a 1-10 record, threw 60 and a third innings with a 8.01 ERA and had 28 punchouts. Milder was 3-5 on the year in 59 and two thirds innings with a 8.80 ERA. The Wildcats return all three players who pitched for them a season ago. The Wildcats open the season Monday when they travel to Lone Tree to meet the Lady Lions.
