lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree baseball team is less than a week away from its season opener. The Lions are coming off of a 2019 season that saw them finish with a 13-12 overall record. They were 6-8 in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. The Lions enjoyed two four game winning streaks in June separated by 10 days, the first included victories over Winfield-Mt. Union, Van Buren, Highland and Danville, the second, Wapello, Tipton, Winfield-Mt. Union and Iowa Valley.

The Lions hit .286 as a team, third in the Superconference. They were led by Avery Knock and his .486 average, third best in the league. He ended with 35 hits, 27RBI and 22 runs scored. Bryce Houser also landed in the top 10 at seventh in conference with a .413 average. He totaled 26 hits, 21RBI and 12 runs scored. With those two moving on through graduation the Lions will turn to Keegan Edwards as their leading returner at the plate, coming off of a .300 season with 27 hits, 26 runs scored and 10RBI.

On the mound Lone Tree had a team ERA of 4.78, third in the Superconference. The Lion ace a season ago was Edwards with a 4-3 record and 2.76ERA. That ERA was 10th best in the conference.

The Lions open the season on Monday when they host Columbus.
