Like the softball team, the Highland baseball program will also need to fill a lot of voids this summer to find success on the diamond.

The Huskies lost seven contributors to graduation after a 13-11 season and finishing fourth in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division. Five of their top six bats have moved on and they return just one starter on the bump in Chase Schultz. The sophomore compiled a 5.32 ERA in 27 innings of work last year and struck out 34 batters. Bill Laughlin is one of four seniors and is the top bat returning after a 2019 season where he recorded a .377 batting average and nine runs knocked in. Cael Yeggy is back for his final year after a .429 on base percentage including 12 RBI and a team-leading 17 walks. Mason McFarland and Grant Colbert are the other seniors for a roster that has 14 underclassmen out of 19 players.

Highland makes a short trip to Kalona to open the season against Hillcrest Academy on Monday.
