Iowa’s continuing weekly unemployment claims in the week ending June 6th, were down from the week before. From May 31 to June 6th there were 159,966 continuing unemployment claims in the state, a decrease of 2,596 from the previous week according to Iowa Workforce Development. Last week the initial unemployment claims totaled 10,112. Unemployment insurance benefit payments added up to $40.5 million last week.
Industries with the most claims included manufacturing at 2,080, self-employed or independent contractors at 1,421, and health care and social assistance at 1,010. Just over $99 million in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation benefits was paid during the week ending June 6th.
