After hanging tough in a 1-0 defeat against Class 2A’s second ranked team in Louisa-Muscatine on Monday for the season opener, the Winfield-Mt. Union softball team gained some confidence and answered back with two straight shutout wins.
All state pitcher Madie Anderson has been electric in the circle and helped the Wolves to a 13-0 win over Mediapolis on Tuesday and followed that up with a 3-0 victory over New London last night. The junior gave up just one hit combined in those two outings and on the young season she has tossed 17 innings of one run ball giving up five hits and striking out 26. In the shortened Mediapolis contest, Carlee Sloan and Anna Anderson each went 2-for-3 at the dish and knocked in two runs. Last night, WMU scratched across all three of their runs in the first and second inning with Emma Haines being a big reason why going 2-for-4. The Wolves move to 2-1 on the season.
The baseball team had a tough time falling to Mediapolis 17-3 and New London 24-0. Nathan Crow had the lone RBI against the Bulldogs with a base hit. WMU is now 0-3 and both squads get back on the diamond tonight at Pekin.
