Iowa added over 500 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Saturday to Monday. During that same time frame, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health, 219 people recovered from the virus and four people died. As of noon Monday, Iowa has had 686 COVID-19 deaths with nine of those in Washington County, 13 in Louisa County, eight in Johnson County, three in Henry County, and one in Keokuk County.
In Region 5, which includes southeast Iowa as of noon Monday, there were 14 hospitalized COVID-19 patients with five in intensive care units and four people on ventilators. The number of people hospitalized in Region 5 has been dropping during the month of June with 47 on June 1st and almost a quarter of that on Monday.
IDPH encourages people to continue practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 like washing hands frequently, wearing masks in public, and practicing social distancing.
