A cloudy day and brief rain showers didn’t stop a large assortment of tractors from parading around Kalona. New, old, big, small, and every tractor in between was shown off during the Kalona Tractorcade event on Saturday. While the annual Great Eastern Iowa Tractorcade event was cancelled due to COVID-19, event organizer Dean Miller wanted to give community members a similar event. Over 75 tractors from across southeast Iowa took part in the event. Miller says if this event happens again, there are changes he would like to make, “Some people are already saying ‘Well, you’re going to do it again right?’ One person made the comment, ‘Are you going to do it this fall?’ One thing, I probably will not have it on a Father’s day weekend. Because I know there was another tractor show this weekend that was Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So I heard about that, I knew that tractor show was there. I know that having it on Father’s Day weekend I lost about eight or 10 tractors at least.” Miller was surprised by the amount of individuals who were in the parade and watched the parade from their front yards. While similar events have been cancelled due to COVID-19, Miller hopes this event brought a smile to the community members of Kalona.
