The Hillcrest Academy and Columbus boys and girls baseball and softball teams met on the diamond Thursday. For the Raven baseball team it was a senior night celebration in Kalona en route to a 10-0 mercy rule win. Hillcrest jumped up early with four run innings in the first and second to build an 8-0 advantage. The Ravens would tack on one each in the third and fourth frames. Drew Blauvelt was the man of the match at the plate going three for three with three RBI and two runs scored. London Schrock went two of three with a pair of triples and two runs scored. Schrock got the win on the mound. He went all five innings, allowed just three hits and struck out seven. The Ravens have now won four straight to get back to .500 at 5-5 on the year. The Wildcats remain winless.
The Raven girls were beaten in Columbus 10-0 in five frames. After a scoreless first, Columbus found their stroke at the plate scoring two each in the second and third innings and three each in the fourth and fifth stanzas to end the game early. Libby White had three hits for the Wildcats and drove in one. Kylee Wheeler added two hits and an RBI. In the circle White went the distance, striking out seven in five innings. Yani Gutierrez cracked a pair of hits at the plate for the Ravens. Leah Bontrager took the loss in the circle for Hillcrest going four and two thirds innings while striking out five. The Wildcats have won back to back games to improve to 2-5, Hillcrest stays winless at 0-9.
