A house caught fire in Washington Saturday night. According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 10:36 p.m. emergency dispatchers received a call from a woman saying her garage roof caught on fire due to a firework. The fire was at 320 North Avenue C. The garage is attached to the house and the flames spread to the residence.
The Washington and Ainsworth Fire Departments extinguished the fire. Washington Police, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, and Washington County Ambulance also responded to the scene. Alliant Energy and the Red Cross were also contacted.
Portions of the metal roof were peeled back, siding was charred black, windows were broken out, and two vehicles were damaged. No injuries were reported. The official cause of fire has not yet been announced by fire officials.
