In the blink of an eye the baseball postseason is here and Winfield-Mt. Union opens Class 1A District 8 play tonight with an area matchup against Columbus Community.
The Wolves are 1-10 overall with their one win coming against the Wildcats on June 25th where they belted 11 hits en route to a 12-1 victory. Jacob Ford has been a constant in the WMU lineup, as he supports a .500 batting average and eight RBI on the season. The junior has also been the top arm with a 6.70 ERA in 15 2/3 innings on the hill. Columbus is 0-8 and they have been off since last Thursday when they fell to Hillcrest Academy 10-0.
The winner of tonight’s bout advances to play Burlington Notre Dame on Saturday and the chance to move on begins at 7 p.m. in Winfield.
