The regular season ended on a high note for the Highland softball team on Wednesday, as they made a trip to Mediapolis and downed the Bulldogs 10-6.
The Huskies plated three in the first and kept the Bulldogs at arm’s length the entire way tacking on two in the second, four in the fourth, and one more in the fifth. Dani Laughlin got things started at the top of the order going 4-for-4 with four runs scored and one RBI. Mackinze Hora recorded three knocks and brought in three tallies. Grace Batcheller picked up the win in the circle tossing 4 1/3 innings giving up four earned runs on nine hits and Jessica Kraus capped off the final 2 2/3 surrendering just one hit and striking out seven. The Huskies finished the regular season 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference for fourth in the division. They start up regional play on Monday facing off with Hillcrest Academy in a game that can be heard on KCII.
The baseball squad came up short in their quest for a division title after the Bulldogs upended them 3-1. Highland placed second in the league with a 6-2 mark and 7-6 overall. They open district play tomorrow against Lisbon in New London.
