Extra precautions have been put in place in Iowa’s court rooms to help protect people from spreading COVID-19. The Iowa Supreme Court announced that fewer people will be able to gather in hallways outside of courtrooms and everyone will be wearing a mask or face shield. Fewer people will be allowed in courtrooms at one time to provide space for social distancing. Anyone who speaks in a trial will be required to wear a face shield to enable full view of the face. Also, the court may allow witnesses to testify by video streaming from a secure location outside the courtroom.
Trials may be continued if any participant experiences COVID-19 symptoms. Parties in judicial proceedings are to use teleconference or videoconference options whenever possible. There will be no jury trials until September 14th.
