A brand new dog park will open on Saturday in Riverside thanks to the efforts of one Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, Highland graduate Matt Butler decided to build a dog park due to his love of dogs and in memory of his farm dog that disappeared. While the name of the park is Butler Park, it is not named after Matt. Instead, it’s named after the dog companion of Captain James Kirk from Star Trek. Butler designed and coordinated the entire project with help from city officials and volunteers. The park officially opens Saturday at 11 a.m. with a small gift given to each resident who brings their dog. The park is located at the east end of Hall Park. The cost of the project was $15,325 funded by hotel and motel money from the City of Riverside.
