Staff members from the newly created Washington County Ambulance department got their first look at their new ambulance bay on Monday. The City of Kalona held a private open house for volunteers from the fire department and EMS, and elected officials from Kalona, Riverside, and Wellman to take a look at the bay. Beginning this past Monday, one of two ambulances on shift will be stationed out of that bay in order to cut down on response times in the northern parts of Washington County. This ambulance bay was made possible by a three-way effort by the cities of Riverside, Kalona, and Wellman as each city paid $15,000 to renovate the space.
