The Columbus Wildcat softball team begins the 3A regional tournament tonight when they travel to the Quad Cities to meet the Davenport Assumption Knights. Columbus is 2-7 this season. Last time out they fell to Sigourney and Pekin in a weekend tournament by 12-1 and 10-1 scores respectively. For the year, the Wildcats are hitting .219 as a team led by Emma Milder at .310. She has compiled nine hits, five runs scored and three RBI on the year. Jocelyn Fulton leads the Wildcats with six driven in. In the circle, Columbus has a team ERA of 5.14 led by Libby White with a 2-5 record and 4.57 mark in 38 and a third innings.
Davenport Assumption comes into the game with an overall record of 16-5. The Knights are ranked No. 1 in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Last time out they got by North Scott by 4-3 and 7-4 scores sweeping the Lancers in a double header. For the year the Knights are hitting .365 as a team, fifth best in class 3A. They are led by Lauren Loken with a .433 average. She has 26 hits, 16 driven in and seven runs scored. In the circle Assumption has a team ERA of 3.50 led by Leah Maro at 2.43 in 31 and two thirds innings of work with a 5-1 overall record. The winner of tonight’s game advances to the regional semifinals Friday against Mid-Prairie, who was a 9-4 winner over Tipton Wednesday. That game will be played in the Quad Cities. Action tonight between the Wildcats and the Knights get underway at 7p.m.
