The Washington County Board of Supervisors unanimously acknowledged the City of Washington’s 43-acre annexation plan on Tuesday. The city recently purchased the land that sits along Highway 1, just south of the Washington County Fairgrounds, to be future residential development.
At the supervisors’ meeting, Mayor Jaron Rosien said it’s part of the city looking to the future, “In the big picture of our service, I think this is exciting. Before you see the Bell land develop, you’ll see east of Whitesell develop prior to that. And then with the Wellness Park we also made big future decisions with the infrastructure we put in there. So as you’re probably aware with the Housing Needs Study and even how jobs relate to housing, in the big picture, this is exciting stuff for both the city and the county. Places for people to build, and then when they build their houses become available and people want that, and I think we’re all in the loop there.”
City Administrator Brent Hinson explained the area already has a sewer line through the middle of it and a water line along it. Hinson said there are approximately 68 lots for residences.
