The Rick Rodgers Community Pool has officially opened after construction delays last summer. The Winfield Community Development Group (WCDG) received a $250,000 Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant in 2018 to construct this new pool. The Rick Rodgers Community Pool, named after the late city employee, saw construction halted in the summer of 2019 due to weather issues, thus delaying the official opening of the pool till June 18th, 2020. Deputy City Clerk Lisa Rees was ecstatic for the pool to open and to see family and kids enjoying it, “As a parent of a teenager, that’s the best thing is seeing those kids back together. I think they really needed it just to be social and just the interaction, it’s definitely needed. I was actually visiting with the pool manager last night, she was happy with everything. They’ve had to make some adjustments on where some life guards stations are at. Everything’s been really good.” The $1,175,000 facility is open daily from 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Swimmers will not have to choose between one time frame or another, they are free to attend either or both time frames. The pool will enforce their capacity limit of 200 guests at one time, socially distance guests, and be closed from 5-6 p.m. in order to clean and disinfect.
