Another COVID-19 death has been reported in Washington County bringing the total to 10. At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen said the death was reported over the weekend and the state’s website had a backlog of positive case data. As of Tuesday, Washington County had 268 confirmed cases of the virus with 232 recovered, or almost 86% recovered. Reisen said there’s been an increase in hospitalizations in Region 5, which encompasses southeast Iowa, “Serology tests: 268 have been tested, eight have been positive, which is a three percent positivity rate. So, within Region 5, hospitalizations are increasing. There are 42 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, 21 of those patients are in the ICU. Within our region, there are 423 patient beds available, 78 ICU beds available, 209 vents available. And there are currently nine patients on vents.”

Iowa had 223 hospitalized patients and 74 in intensive care units on Tuesday with 42% of the state’s inpatient beds available. Statewide as of Tuesday, Iowa has had 800 deaths, and 39,424 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 28,335 recovered, a recovery rate of nearly 72%. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, 9.3% of individuals tested have been positive for the virus.
