A congested area of South Avenue C in Washington may see parking changes to fix the issue. In a workshop on Tuesday night, the Washington City Council discussed possible options to alleviate the crowded area by changing parking regulations on the street south of Monroe Street. Currently parking is allowed on both sides of the street, which causes traffic to be limited to one car at a time.

One possible option is to limit parking to one side during school hours, as that is a route to the high school. Councilor Fran Stigers mentioned how one resident called the area “Ping Pong Alley” and said it is a problem outside of school traffic, “Personally, I think if you start putting down you can only park here during non-school hours, you’re only fixing half the problem because that street is used 24/7. If you’re going to put parking somewhere or no parking somewhere, it should be 24/7. Don’t go halfway because we’ll be back here in another year fixing the other half.”

No decisions to change parking were made, but the council plans to look further at the issue. The council asked city staff to send a letter to residents in the area for their input.
