A portion of Highway 1, south of Iowa City, will see the replacement of two bridges and construction of two box culverts starting Monday August 10. The two bridges being replaced go over Old Man’s Creek and Old Woman’s Creek and are being replaced with a rolled-steel bridge and a concrete beam bridge, respectively. Also, two box culverts will be constructed at the Old Man’s Creek overflow. Drivers traveling between Kalona and Iowa City will have to follow a 19mile detour following Highway 22 and Highway 218 until September, weather permitting. This portion of Highway 1 will be closed for through traffic starting Monday, August 10, at 6 a.m. Completion of this project is expected by September 23.
