The 2020 baseball season was a big one for the Mid-Prairie program, and it’s showing in the post season awards category. The River Valley Conference recently released their all-conference squads with nine Golden Hawks earning honors.

Three Mid-Prairie players were named to the River Valley Super Team. They include senior Brad Tornow at the pitcher spot. Tornow was a unanimous selection. Despite a season cut short by injury, he finished with a perfect 5-0 record and microscopic 0.91ERA. That number was eighth best in class 2A and his 43 strikeouts 10th best. That total of punchouts came in just 23 innings of work. His average of 1.8 strikeouts per inning was best in the state. He ends his pitching career at Mid-Prairie winning his last 12 decisions in a row, dating back to his sophomore season. He also hit .400 during his most recent season, seventh best in the RVC with 31 runs scored, third most in 2A and 17 RBI.

Senior Monte Slabaugh was a River Valley Conference Super Team selection in the outfield. He hit .328 in his final campaign with 12 RBI, ninth in the conference. He also scored 12 runs. To go along with his work in the outfield and at the plate, he finished the year on the mound with a 2-1 record in 16 innings of work and a 2.57ERA.

Junior Aidan Rath was a River Valley Conference Superteamer. He led the Hawks, RVC and finished third in the state with a .562 average at the plate. His five home runs led the conference and were second most in Iowa and his 29 RBI were also an RVC best and second best in the state.

Junior Kayden Reinier was a second team RVC selection at utility. He hit .302 this year with 14 RBI and 12 runs scored. On the mound he threw 27 innings and went 2-0 with a 3.84ERA.

Senior Chris Miller was a second team pick in the outfield. Miller hit .317 this season with 14 runs scored and seven runs driven in.

Junior Keegan Gingerich was a second team selection on the mound. He finished the year with a perfect 5-0 record to go along with a 1.38ERA in 30 innings pitched. His ERA was second in the RVC for those with at least 30 innings of work. He hit .255 at the plate with 23 runs scored, 20 walks drawn and 10 RBI.

Junior Vinnie Bowlin was a second team RVC player at catcher for the Golden Hawks. He hit .296 for the year with nine RBI and eight runs scored.

Eighth grader Karson Grout was a second team River Valley Conference selection at third base. He finished the year with a .327 average, 20 runs scored and 17 RBI to go with 12 walks.

Sophomore outfielder Will Cavanagh was an RVC honorable mention selection. He hit .250 with 19 runs scored and seven RBI.

Mid-Prairie finished the year with a 15-4 overall record, qualifying for their first state tournament since 2007.
