Typically, this time of year people flock to Des Moines for the Iowa State Fair, but due to COVID-19 it has been postponed for the first time since World War II. There’s no butter cow sculpture, no new twists on foods on a stick, no lights flashing on the midway, and the grandstand will be silent without headlining entertainment. Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) says it’ll be the first time in over four decades that he hasn’t visited the fair, “Barbara and I would spend at least two days at the State Fair, and we haven’t missed a State Fair since 1974. And so, I look forward to it continuing next year and being bigger and better than ever.”

While the traditional fair isn’t taking place over the next two weeks, 4-H and FFA exhibitors nominated for livestock projects are showcasing their work. The shows began August 6th and will run through August 22nd.
