A fish kill near Washington is being investigated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The DNR states that a person noticed dead fish over several days in Long Creek. The fish were observed on August 14th about 3.5 miles east of Washington in Long Creek. The DNR discovered high ammonia levels and some dead fish near a stormwater outlet.

The source of the discharge has not yet been determined. DNR officials will continue to investigate the issue and appropriate enforcement action will be taken.
