The level of crop damage sustained in Iowa in last week’s severe storm varied widely depending on location and wind strength according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Wind speeds reached over 110 miles per hour in Linn and Benton counties. The storm caused damage to crops, grain storage, and farm structures. Statewide the corn condition last week was 13% excellent, 56% good, 23% fair, and 8% poor to very poor and fell to 9% excellent, 50% good, 24% fair, and 17% poor to very poor this week.
ISU Ag Engineering Field Specialist Kristina TeBockhorst tells KCII News there was little crop damage around Washington County but there were some reports of leaning corn. She encourages farmers to take photos of any crop or farm building damage and consult with their insurance carriers.
