An effort is underway to name a bridge in eastern Iowa in honor of Chuck Geertz. Geertz was the founder of Healing at English River Outfitters (HERO) in Washington County. The 63-year-old Army and Marine combat veteran passed away following a motorcycle wreck one year ago in Kansas City and was escorted home by hundreds of motorcycles with emergency responders and vehicles lining the highways along the route.

On Tuesday, the five-member Muscatine County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a request to name the Highway 22 bridge over the Cedar River in his honor. The resolution will be taken to the Iowa DOT for consideration and state approval. The sign on the bridge will cost up to $1,500 and will be paid for through a fundraiser.

The board of supervisors commended Geertz for his work helping veterans providing hunting, fishing, and camping retreats.
