Many area high schools are back in session, but due to the severe storm two weeks ago Kirkwood Community College has delayed all courses until next week. Director of the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center Tera Pickens says the delay is for all Kirkwood locations, “We were very fortunate here in Washington to not sustain any damage locally to the Washington County Regional Center, but unfortunately our main campus in Cedar Rapids received extensive damage to both campus with the downing of trees and also to several of our buildings. So, due to the damage and the storm recovery efforts that we’ve had to do in Cedar Rapids, we had to delay the start of classes for all locations.”
The delay includes concurrent credit classes that some area high school students are enrolled in. So, they may be attending high school classes this week, but no Kirkwood classes until next week.
Pickens says there has been a delay in delivery of some textbooks and they are communicating with each student. Pickens encourages students to use this week to prepare, set up their Kirkwood email account, and look for any further updates.
