The first half of real estate and mobile home taxes is due September 1st. Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett explains they must be paid by September 30th to avoid penalty. Starting October 1st, a penalty of 1.5% per month rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a $1 minimum will be attached.

Due to COVID-19, in-person payments are strongly discouraged. People can make payments by placing them in the drop box on the west side of the courthouse or mailing them to the Washington County Treasurer at PO Box 889. Statement coupons must accompany payments. They can also be paid online at IowaTreasurers.org.
