The Kalona Creamery has seen a plethora of donated items coming through the doors to help families in Cedar Rapids affected by the August 10 derecho. Kalona SuperNatural Marketing Manager Sam Ingersoll says the efforts of the Kalona community has been great so far, “The work we are doing is just neighbors helping neighbors and that’s what people in Kalona do. Right inside the door of the creamery there’s a big table that’s packed with stuff, and a bunch of stuff packed up under it. Looks like there’s mostly diapers, paper cleaning goods, and then a lot of non-perishable food items that are coming in. Even a few things for the kids. For kids up there that’s been nice. We know that a lot of the homeless families that we’ve heard about have a lot of young children.” Ingersoll says the Kalona Creamery will continue to gather donated items as long as families need help. Items most needed include sleeping bags, diapers, toiletries, and non-perishable foods.
