A special election in Keota to fill an empty council seat will no longer happen. Over 60 signatures were collected for a special election petition. After an objection was filed against the petition, the city council created an objection committee to hear both sides of the situation and determine if the special election will happen. At the special September third meeting, the committee concluded that the election will not be held due to the petition being withdrawn on August 28. The council’s unanimous decision to appoint Keota resident Heath McDonald to the vacant seat will stand.
