The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team faces a tough road test tonight when they travel to West Liberty. The Golden Hawks are a perfect 4-0 on the young season after sweeps of English Valleys and Tri-County to win the Keota tournament, a sweep of rival Washington in straight sets and a sweep of Durant on the road. The victory over the Wildcats was Mid-Prairie’s first conference win in five seasons. On the year, the Golden Hawks are led by Tori Boyse with 22 kills. Landry Pacha has a team best 67 assists. The Golden Hawk defense is paced by Maddie Edgington with 24 digs.
West Liberty comes into the match with an overall record of 9-0. The Comets are ranked No. 8 in class 3A in this week’s poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. Last time out West Liberty was perfect at the Muscatine tournament over the weekend, going 4-0, winning in sweeps over Mediapolis, Muscatine, Williamsburg and Burlington. For the season, the Comets are led by Macy Daufeldt with 81 kills, sixth best in class 3A. Brooklyn Buysse has 176 assists, sixth most in Iowa and Monica Morales is best on the team with 96 digs. These two teams met three times a year ago with the Comets winning all matches in sweeps. Mid-Prairie’s last win over West Liberty came in 2009, a string of 21 straight Comet victories. Action starts tonight at 7:15 at West Liberty High School.
