After every home win, the WACO volleyball team has a tradition where they sing and dance to the Hokey Pokey on the court with fans joining in on the fun. On Tuesday, that tradition seemed a little extra special for the Warriors after they upended a tough West Burlington squad in four sets.

The Falcons gave the Warriors their only loss of the season a few weeks ago in a tournament and early on in this one it looked like West Burlington would continue to be a nuisance, as they erased a 21-14 first set deficit to come back and win 26-24. The West Burlington thorn in the side of WACO immediately disappeared, as the Warriors seized control the rest of the way en route to set wins of 25-18, 25-19, and 25-20.

Senior libero and KCII’s JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week Aubri Garnsey says it was all about the defense that got the job done. “I think our defense was on point. Everyone was scrappy and ready to go. That was our focus because Sydney Marlow for them is a really good hitter and we had to change things around to slow her down. I think that really helped us win the match.”

Garnsey did her thing with 23 digs and the team recorded a 95% serve efficiency with 10 aces. Grace Coble set up all of the firepower with an eye-popping 37 assists and Morgan Graber was the beneficiary with 18 kills.

The Warriors move to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in SEISC play. They hit the road tonight to face off with Cardinal at 7:30 p.m. The Comets are 2-3 and last played on Tuesday when they were swept by Van Buren.
