For the first time in 2020 the WACO football team hits their home turf tonight when they welcome Lone Tree for an area 8-player clash.

The Warriors look to get over the hump against the Lions, as they have dropped five of the last six meetings including a 36-20 defeat in 2019. WACO is 1-1 and try to put a 50-10 loss to New London last week behind them. They have been heavy on the ground game with senior quarterback Will Edeker compiling 153 yards rushing and four scores while adding two through the air. Simeon Reichenbach has been everywhere defensively with 20 tackles.

The Lions had two weeks to prepare for this one, as they sit at 0-1 after a 39-22 loss to English Valleys in week one. In his first career start at quarterback, Cade Shield impressed throwing for 201 yards and added 103 on the ground with a pair of scores. Cade Patterson has already established himself as a reliable receiver with nine catches for 122 yards. The defense will look to shore things up after allowing 414 yards.

WACO Head Coach Chad Edeker tells KCII Sports the Lions always present a big challenge. “They have had two weeks to prepare and will know what we do so we will have to be ready. Coach Bohr does a great job always getting his team ready. We need to worry about ourselves. Coming off of last week, we need to improve on a lot of things. Being more explosive, quicker off the ball, making better reads, and getting where we need to be defensively.”

The matchup gets underway at 7 p.m. tonight in Wayland.
