The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks scored their first win of the football season a week ago, and they are back for more tonight at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman when Eddyville-Blakesburg comes to town. The Hawks got in the W column a week ago by pounding Central Lee 49-0. It was a game that featured Kayden Reinier shattering a 15-year-old school record for rushing yards in a game with 316 on just 12 carries and five touchdowns. The Golden Hawks come in at 1-1 on the season after splitting games with Sigourney-Keota and Central Lee. Mid-Prairie is led this season by Vinny Bowlin through the air at 14 of 26 for 238 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He has connected with Keegan Gingerich six times for 118 yards and a score. On the ground, Kayden Reinier has 450 yards, 10th most in class 2A, on 34 carries and seven touchdowns. Justice Jones is the leading tackler for the Hawks with 12 stops. He and Gingerich each have an interception this year.
Eddyville-Blakesburg enters play with a matching 1-1 record on the season. A week ago, it took overtime but they got by West Burlington 30-28. On the season the Rockets are led by Thane Alexander at two of 10 passing for 58 yards. Ethan Olivas has both catches for the Rockets. Alexander also leads the ground game with 29 carries for 247 yards and three touchdowns. He’s the leading tackler also for the Rocket defense with 20 and a half stops. He and Alex Garman have an interception, Clayton Young and Caleb Noble have each recovered a fumble.
These two teams last met a season ago when Mid-Prairie spoiled Homecoming for the Rockets in Eddyville with a 62-7 win.
