The Highland football team will try to grab its first win of the season Friday when they host the North Cedar Knights for their 2020 Homecoming game. Highland comes into the contest with an 0-3 overall record after a 49-27 loss to Columbus last time out. Against the Wildcats the Huskies were led by Owen Donovan with 23 carries for 168 yards and a pair of scores on the ground. For the season, Highland is led by Connor Grinstead through the air at 12 of 33 for 116 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception. Donovan leads the ground game with 61 carries for 403 yards and four touchdowns. He also has a team best four catches. Grinstead is the leader of the Highland defense with 18 tackles. Luke Miller has a fumble recovery and an interception for Highland this season.

North Cedar comes in with an overall record of 0-3. The Knights lost to Iowa City Regina last week 62-0. They have been outscored 123-14 through the first three games of the year. Against the Regals, they finished with just 57 total yards while giving up 448. They also turned the ball over three times. On the season, Jaxon Sander leads the Knights through the air at 21 of 52 for 301 yards, two touchdowns and six interceptions. His top target is Kael Unruh with 12 catches for 243 yards and a pair of scores. Peyton Clark has 31 carries for 49 yards. The Knights defense is led by Tadan Lange with 21 and a half tackles. They have yet to record a takeaway. This week, Highland head coach Scott Morel talked about the keys for his team this week to get their first win. “North Cedar is a good team. They come out in a spread, and then mix in some power I. It will be important for us to be able to identify it, line up right, make changes and execute. As coaches it’s our job to put our guys in the right position to do that.”

These two teams last met in 2011 with North Cedar taking a 30-15 win. Action begins at 7p.m. in Riverside.
