The Columbus football team had a hard time against Wapello on Friday for homecoming with the final score being 49-7 in favor of the Indians. 

The game slipped away from the Wildcats early with Wapello scoring 35 points in the first quarter and never looked back. Columbus couldn’t really get anything on offense going, as they finished three of nine passing with just 13 yards and only 63 on the ground. Thirteen of their 28 carries went to Will Schwab who led the team in rushing with 38 yards. Kaden Amigon scored their only touchdown on the night with a 24 yard run. The defense was led by Jaden Miller with 2.5 tackles. For Wapello, it was like they couldn’t be stopped, finishing seven of nine through the air for 167 yards and 259 rushing yards on 28 carries. The run game was led by Jake Gustison with 52 yards on six carries and he also picked up two touchdowns. Jordan Paris and Keaton McChonahay both had 4.5 tackles to lead the defense.

After this game both teams are now 2-2 on the season. The Wildcats face Regina Catholic on Friday in Columbus Junction.
