October has arrived and with that more trees are having leaves turn colors and fall. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ weekly report, southeast Iowa is seeing more vibrant colors this week. Black walnut, silver maple, elm, and cottonwood are showing color. Also, dogwood, wild plum, and poison ivy are showing purple and reds. White ash is turning purple. Sumac and some urban maples are turning red. The peak time to see colorful leaves in southeast Iowa will be October 15-22.
