Washington Golf and Country Club was the location for a cross country meet last night with many area schools competing.
Washington’s Lance Sobaski showed off for the home crowd in the boys’ race winning his third straight meet in a time of 17:33. The junior out ran the competition by 23 seconds with Sigourney’s Mason Moore in second clocking in at 17:56. Sobaski tells KCII Sports accomplishing this on the home course makes it that more special. “It was a good race. I love the atmosphere here and this is definitely one of my favorite courses. To see all of my teachers, coaches, and friends here it is a blast to go do my thing in front of them and show them what I have been working on all summer.”
Sobaski led a Demon squad that placed third out of six teams with 56 points while Fairfield won with 35. Other top performers included Micah Rees in seventh (18:39), Cameron Vongpanya 14th (19:25), and Elijah Morris 16th (19:36). Lone Tree finished fourth with 171 points and Highland was fifth with 209. Nick Saltzman led the Lions in 19th (19:52) and Cale Christofferson was 23rd (20:27). Highland’s Ethan Paisley crossed the finish line in 33rd (21:08) and Jacob Roling was 39th (21:27).
On the girls’ side Washington placed second out of three with 49 points while Mount Pleasant took home the gold with 34. Nine Demons cracked the top 20 led by Hannah Rees in fifth with a time of 22:23. Taylor Bartholomew tallied seventh (22:37), Abby Kleese 11th (23:22), and Cloe Telleen 12th (23:25). Highland did not have enough for a team score, but Madison Thomann had a productive night finishing fourth (22:20) and Taylor Sublette was 15th (24:02). Georgia Atwood was the lone Savage runner in 31st (29:57).
