Southeast Iowa Super Conference cross country runners will put their talents on display today when they make a trip to Keosauqua for the conference meet.

Area schools of Columbus, Highland, Hillcrest Academy, Lone Tree, Winfield-Mt. Union, and WACO will all compete for a league title. The Columbus boys’ should be in the running for a top three finish after placing first in a couple meets this year and junior Isaac Acosta recently cracked the top 10 in Winfield. WACO’s Jonah Egli is a returning state qualifier and is slowly coming back from injury while Winfield-Mt. Union’s Brody Barton will also give it a go after being on the shelf the last couple weeks. Highland’s Madi Thomann and Hillcrest Academy’s Leah Bontrager will look to do damage on the girls’ side after reaching state in 2019.

Columbus Head Coach Steve Riley likes this course. “There are a few hills, but nothing too severe and it is a fair course. The competition will be strong, especially on the boys’ side with #1 in 2A Danville-New London being the clear favorite and #5 in 1A Pekin. They have been a powerhouse over the years and we really feel that we can push them a little bit. Just to be in a position to say that is a great credit to our kids.”

The first race begins at 4:30 p.m. this evening at Riverview Country Club in Keosauqua.
