There’s plenty riding on a regular season finale road trip for the Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team tonight when they travel to Cardinal of Eldon to meet the Comets. SK comes into the contest with an overall record of 6-0. Last week they rolled through Mediapolis 31-14 to move into the driver’s seat in the class 1A district six race. Sam Sieren led the way for the Cobras with 288 yards on 26 carries with a pair of touchdowns. On the season, Sigourney-Keota is led by Cade Molyneux at 21 of 29 through the air for 403 yards, six touchdowns and one interception. His favorite target is Brady Duwa with 12 catches for 230 yards and five scores. On the ground, Sieren leads the single wing attack with 72 carries for 754 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jack Clarahan leads the Cobra defense with 36 tackles. Defensively, the Cobras have 11 takeaways on the year.

Cardinal comes into the contest with an overall mark of 4-2. Last week, the Comets celebrated Homecoming by dismantling Van Buren 74-0, with quarterback Maddux Jones going 17 of 19 for 279 yards and five touchdowns. On the season the Comets are led by Jones under center at 43 of 57 for 770 yards, 12 touchdowns to just one interception. Ian Liles leads the ground game with 44 carries for 190 yards and three scores. The Comet receiving corps is paced by Griffin Greiner with 27 catches for 520 yards and nine touchdowns. On defense, Greiner has 30 tackles and the Comets as a unit have 13 total takeaways. This week, Sigourney-Keota head coach Jared Jensen talked about finishing the year with Cardinal. “Honestly, we’re kind of happy that we finally get to see a passing team. Up to this point in the year we haven’t seen a lot of that. The guys we have at defensive back are special players. Brady Duwa had nine interceptions last year, as a team we had 15 total. We have two new guys at corner, but both of our safeties are back. They will be tested this week. Cardinals quarterback and receiving corps are putting up some impressive numbers. Our guys have their eyes set on a district championship. That’s been a goal of theirs and something we haven’t done in more than a decade. Now it’s in front of us if we take care of business.”

These two teams last met in 2013 with the Cobras clobbering the Comets 42-6. A win tonight would give Sigourney-Keota their first district title in more than a decade. Action begins tonight at 7p.m. at Cardinal High School.
