Pulling off a road upset was the goal for the Lone Tree football team on Friday, but the high flying #6 ranked Montezuma offense was not going to let that happen in a 62-24 victory over the Lions in an 8-player regular season finale.
The Lions hung tough for awhile trailing just 26-16 at the break, but a monstrous 33-0 third quarter for the Braves propelled them to their first win over Lone Tree in three tries. Montezuma quarterback Eddie Burgess was an unstoppable machine, completing 22 of 27 passes for 326 yards and five touchdowns while adding three more scores on the ground for 211 yards. The Braves managed 595 yards of total offense on the night. Lone Tree’s Cade Shield was 12 of 26 for 158 yards and a score to Cade Patterson. Alex Viner and Levi Sotzen each added one on the ground. Will Hotz led the defense with 8.5 tackles. The Braves turned the Lions over four times in total.
Lone Tree closed the regular season 3-3 and they gear up for the first round of the playoffs on Friday at Winfield-Mt. Union (4-3).
