The opportunity to capture a Southeast Conference crown is tonight for the Washington cross country teams, as the Demons host the conference meet at Washington Golf and Country Club.

Lance Sobaski will be in contention for an individual championship on the boys’ side, as the junior has three meet titles this year and most recently cracked the top 15 at a loaded North Linn meet on Saturday. The Demons placed ninth out of 16 as a team and the girls were 10th. The pack running of the girls’ team has carried them in 2020 and Head Coach Stefanie Haworth says it could pay off tonight. “We have never had a conference title on the girls’ side and this meet is going to be a dogfight. I think a couple different teams can win and it will come down to who shows up and wants it more. On the boys’ side we have only won as a team once and never have had any individual champion. We have some great goals and I have been telling them to run how they have all year and they will be fine.”

The first race begins at 4 p.m. this evening at Washington Golf and Country Club.
